Life is too short.

Advice Column

Dear Friend,

Life is short and regret is painful.

I’ve been hearing news outlets, post-election, giving disturbing advice. Their expert guests are telling people who are unhappy with the results to “call out” their friends and families on Thanksgiving. Or they’re egging on people who are happy with the results to gloat about their win.

This makes me so sad. I hate to think of a person choosing to widen a divide with someone they love during this meaningful opportunity to connect. We never know how many more Thanksgivings we will have together. Regret is painful.

Many times I’ve lacked the wisdom to realize something that bothered me would feel much less important just a short time later. I got swept up in my emotions and now regret it.

You are likely not one of the people planning an emotional ambush  Thursday. I applaud you! And if you encounter someone who is, I’m praying you can respond out of a well of compassion and grace.

My friend, I hope you have a wonderful experience connecting with the people you care about. I hope you get to focus on the things you love about them and about life. I hope you experience heart-warming connection!

With my love,

Lisa
