A Place to Start When You’re Stuck

Advice Column

Happy Fall, Friend,

How do you get unstuck when there’s so much to do that you’re overwhelmed?

There are times when so much is coming at me that even having clear priorities isn’t enough to figure out where to start. I feel paralyzed.

But a few months ago I heard a great piece of wisdom. “When you’re stuck and don’t know what to do next, pick one small thing that’s bugging you and fix it.”

I tried it.

The first thing that I noticed was, I’d been up a while and hadn’t made my bed. I took care of that. It seems insignificant, but doing that got me rolling. Then I thought about an email I’d been putting off writing and tackled that. Before I knew it I was moving again.

While it sounds simple, this “trick” has been powerful every time I’ve used it.

How do you get going when you’re feeling overwhelmed by the mountain in front of you, Friend?

Warmly,

Lisa
